She was a famous actress, having starred in over a hundred films, but a tragic mistake completely ruined her appearance.

In the glittering world of show business, a few stars shine so uniquely that their light never fades. Lyn May, one of Mexico’s most iconic entertainers, is among those unforgettable figures. Her journey is filled with triumphs, trials, and surprising twists which reads like a movie few could have imagined.

From Acapulco to the Spotlight

Born Lilia Guadalupe Mendiola Mayares in 1952 in Acapulco, Lyn May has both Chinese and Mexican heritage. From an early age, she worked tirelessly to support her family first selling souvenirs to tourists, then waiting tables. During this time, she met an American sailor, with whom she shared several years of her life and had two children.

After their separation, Lyn returned to Acapulco and began pursuing dance. Despite lacking formal training, her natural charisma and energy quickly caught attention, paving her way into entertainment.

Lyn May first captivated audiences on television, especially through the popular Latin American show “Siempre en Domingo.” Her growing fame drew the interest of Enrique Lombardini, the owner of Teatro Esperanza Iris, who invited her to perform in his burlesque productions.
