A lighthearted viral debate recently centered on why bath towels have that odd raised line or strip across them.
While social media users offered plenty of jokes — calling it a “face-to-butt divider” or “racing stripes” — textile experts confirmed the line has a real name and purpose: the dobby border.
This woven band, placed at both ends of most towels, is designed to strengthen the fabric, prevent fraying, and reduce edge bulk so the towel stays soft, lightweight, and absorbent even after many washes.
