Utah Judge Rejects Tyler Robinson’s Bid to Remove Death Penalty in Charlie Kirk Murder Case

UTAH — A Utah judge has rejected Tyler Robinson’s attempt to eliminate the possibility of the death penalty in his aggravated murder case involving the fatal shooting of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, ruling that the prosecution’s disputed public statements do not justify such a severe legal remedy.Judge Tony Graf Jr. ruled Friday that Robinson remains eligible for capital punishment if convicted of aggravated murder. However, the judge also found Deputy Utah County Attorney Christopher Ballard in civil contempt for expressing his personal assessment of the strength of the evidence against Robinson during public comments.

The decision represents a significant development in a case that has drawn widespread attention, with prosecutors and defense attorneys increasingly clashing over pretrial publicity, courtroom restrictions and the handling of forensic evidence.
