A mother’s final act saved her newborn daughter’s life.

21-year-old Shelby Ann Carter was home alone with her newborn daughter, Keana, when a devastating house fire broke out.

As smoke filled the house, Shelby faced an unimaginable emergency. Knowing her baby needed to escape, she secured her daughter in a car seat and lowered her from a second-floor window to safety. Tragically, Shelby died from carbon monoxide poisoning before she could escape herself. When firefighters found little Keana, they rushed her to the hospital. Miraculously, the baby had survived without apparent injuries, thanks to her mother’s quick thinking.
