The search for a 10-year-old girl in Baraboo, Wisconsin, came to a heartbreaking conclusion after authorities located her body near the area where she had been reported missing. The case began when Kodie Dutcher was reported missing after she was last seen during the afternoon of July 6, 2020. Her disappearance prompted an immediate response from local authorities, emergency personnel, and search teams as efforts began to determine where she had gone and bring her home safely.
According to information released by police, Kodie was last seen around 4 p.m. in the 1100 block of 12th Street in Baraboo. Officers were called to an apartment complex later that afternoon and spoke with her mother. Information gathered during the initial response led authorities to believe that the child could have been in a vulnerable situation and needed to be located quickly. Investigators also learned that she had left behind personal belongings, including her phone and shoes, leading authorities to believe she may have been traveling on foot.
Because of the circumstances surrounding her disappearance and her young age, authorities treated the situation as an urgent missing-child case. An Amber Alert was issued to help notify the public and increase the chances of locating her quickly. These alerts are intended to bring immediate attention to situations involving children who are believed to be missing under circumstances that require an urgent response.
