Suddenly Feeling Something Stuck in Your Throat? Here’s What That Small Lump Could Mean

Many people occasionally experience the uncomfortable feeling that something is stuck in their throat even when they have not swallowed anything unusual.

They may repeatedly cough, swallow, or clear their throat in an attempt to remove the sensation.

Sometimes, after coughing or clearing the throat, a small white or yellow lump suddenly appears.

Seeing something like this can be alarming, particularly when a person has never experienced it before.

In many cases, however, the small lump is a tonsil stone, also known as a tonsillolith.

Tonsil stones are hardened deposits that develop in small pockets or crevices within the tonsils.
