Celebration

The moment the bill hit the table, everything broke. Not the romance, not the eveningโ€”something deeper, quieter, inside me. One small assumption. One dismissive look. One too-casual shrug at my discomfort. Iโ€™d spent months swallowing moments like this, calling it โ€œkeeping the peace.โ€ But peace built on silence always demaโ€ฆ Continuesโ€ฆ

I went into that evening believing that a perfect dinner could fix what we were too afraid to name: the growing distance between us. I chose the restaurant carefully, rehearsed soft conversations in my head, and hoped shared laughter might patch over the cracks. Instead, when the bill came, it exposed everything Iโ€™d been trying not to seeโ€”how easily my feelings could be brushed aside, how quickly my discomfort could be dismissed as overreacting.
