Wehmeyer, 21, of Cape Girardeau, was formally charged with one count of abuse or neglect of a child resulting in death, per a Missouri State Highway Patrol news release.<\/p>\n<p>The arrest came the day after the Cape Girardeau Police Department requested that the Missouri State Highway Patrol\u2019s Division of Drug and Crime \u201cinvestigate a suspicious death\u201d of a toddler.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDuring the investigation, it was determined the child suffered from severe malnutrition and neglect, resulting in the child\u2019s death. On March 3, 2025, Wehmeyer was taken into custody by members of the Missouri State Highway Patrol and transported to the Scott County Jail,\u201d the release stated.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Alyssa N.
