Now, I\u2019m not suggesting the majority of parents aren\u2019t doing their jobs \u2013 far from it \u2013 merely that childhood is a steep learning curve, one in which virtually all participants will make mistakes they\u2019ll look back on and regret.<\/p>\n
Perhaps what matters most when such things occur isn\u2019t what has actually happened but rather how said child learns from it and moves on.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s precisely for this reason that we introduce the concept of punishment early: a kid does something wrong and they\u2019re forced to suffer the consequences of said act. It\u2019s teaches them a simple lesson and, hopefully*, they don\u2019t do that same thing again.
\nOf course, punishments can vary in degrees, ranging from a metaphorical slap on the wrist to methods that the offending child won\u2019t likely forget.<\/p>\n
